The Marist Fathers’ 30th General Chapter opened in Nemi, Italy, gathering capitulants from 31 countries to pray, reflect, and discern the Society’s direction. Early days focused on building community, electing leadership, and studying unit reports on ministries worldwide. Retreats and liturgies centered on themes of Mary’s presence, synodality, and openness to the Spirit. Reports on governance, education, interreligious dialogue, ecology, and finance invited reflection on the Society’s mission and challenges in a diverse and changing world.
A highlight of the Chapter was the audience with Pope Leo XIV, who encouraged fidelity to founding charisms while discerning the “signs of the times.” He stressed community life, obedience, and attentiveness to today’s needs. Inspired, the capitulants returned to continue discerning priorities, focusing on formation, mission, governance, communion, and partnership with laity. Testimonies from lay observers underscored the importance of collaboration and the living presence of Mary’s charism in diverse contexts.
The assembly’s work unfolded through commissions tasked with drafting directions for the future of the Society of Mary. Discussions emphasized interculturality, shared mission with laity, flexibility in governance, and clarity in leadership. Daily prayer, group discernment, and plenary sessions guided the process. Looking ahead, the Chapter prepared for elections of the Superior General and council, while remaining grounded in its mission to embody Mary’s presence and respond to the needs of Church and world today.

Song - Good Good Father
Final Prayer
Loving God,
we give You thanks for the gift of the Marist Father's General Chapter and for the guidance of Your Holy Spirit among the participants who have gathered in discernment. As Mary waited with the disciples at Pentecost, we too wait and pray for the outpouring of Your Spirit, that we may live with compassion, unity, and courage. Bless the decisions and directions that have emerged, and strengthen all Marists—religious and lay alike—to walk together in shared mission. May our communities embody Mary’s presence in the world, listening deeply to the signs of the times, serving with humility, and proclaiming the hope of the Gospel in every place. Renew us in faith and fraternity, so that the Society of Mary may continue to be a light for the Church and the world. Amen.
